Imagine being able to create an illusion that looks like Special FX but being able to do it LIVE. A three phase routine where a card VISUALLY MORPHS into a signed playing card.

From his working repertoire Mike Liu shares his highly visual morph of a playing card into a signed playing card. Mike has performed this routine under test conditions from street performances to strolling and close-up corporate work. It has become his signature routine that not only fools lay people but has fooled many a knowledgeable magician.

This very visual morph happens up-close using a very clever gimmick that does all the work for you. During the morph the spectators see the card actually smudge and then morph into the card they signed moments before.

Each gimmick is custom made and does most of the work for you.

EFFECT: A three phase card morph routine where a card is selected from a RED back deck and signed on the face. It is then lost in the deck. The performer then shows the face card of the deck which starts to SMUDGE as he waves his hand then visibly morphs it into the signed card, which the spectator then turns over to now discover their card has a BLUE back. The card is given away as a souvenir.

Who is he?
Brought up in south-western France, Xavier Mortimer packed up his suitcase to travel the world while creating shows that blend magic, circus acts, music and comedy.

He studied at the Music and Dance Conservatory of La Rochelle, as well as the Desmond Jones Acting School in London and the Jacques Lecoq Acting School in Paris.  At the age of 15, he created his first show, a combination of magic, mime and comedy. Thereafter, he won several prizes for Magic including 1st place at the Albano International Congress in Italy and Gold Star at the L’Eau d’Olle magic festival in France.

A truly complete performer, he is the recipient of several more international prizes for Magic regarding his shows. He has achieved public recognition with his show L’Ombre Orchestre (The Shadow Orchestra) created in Avignon (France) in 2006, and subsequently performed in Paris and worldwide more than 1000 times.

Xavier Mortimer is both the creator of and performer in visual shows that he presents internationally. What’s more, he not only composes the music for his own shows, but for other shows, as well. In 2012, he created the character Sneaky for the newest Cirque du Soleil’s show, ONE, which is currently being performed in Las Vegas.

Between 2013 and 2015, while performing in Vegas, Xavier has been a guest on mainstream TV shows all around the world and he is about to release his new magic show in 2016 in LAS VEGAS.

He was also invited to perform for FISM Italy 2015.

This trick FOOLED ME FIVE TIMES IN A ROW. That doesn’t happen a lot, but I’m man enough to admit it.

MUTE was the actually first trick that Ryan ever showed me. I was CLUELESS. And since that time…the trick has grown more and more
deceptive.

Here’s how it looks:

Your friend walks out of the room. Somebody picks a card and puts it back in the deck. It really goes in the middle, and the cards really go in the box. Then your friend walks back into the room…and she INSTANTLY knows what the card was picked.

YOU DON’T SAY ANYTHING. (Hence the trick’s title: Mute.) In the past, tricks like this were accomplished by complex verbal coding, but with MUTE, you say NOTHING. You don’t have to hold your body in a certain position. No hand signals, either. No palming or indexing or fancy sleight-of-hand. Nothing like that.

And most importantly: NO FORCE. The spectator can select WHICHEVER card he wants. Hell—he doesn’t even have to physically pick the card; he can just NAME it.

THAT’S why MUTE fooled me five times in a row. Everything I was looking for (forces, words, hand signals)…JUST WASN’T THERE.


One of the most powerful and most underused premises in magic is PASSING THE POWER onto somebody else. And ANYONE can perform MUTE with you. You don’t need a magic partner or anything like that. You can teach somebody how to do MUTE with you IN TWO MINUTES FLAT. Your friend, your girlfriend, your wife, your partner, your co-worker, some dude you meet at a party—ANYONE can do this with you, and it will FOOL THE HELL OUT OF EVERYONE WATCHING.

I know this firsthand. Which is weird; usually I’m the one doing the fooling, but this time, it was all Ryan. Like I said, I’m man enough to admit this.

Clone Coin by Mark Lee

Mark Lee presents three amazing illusions, with his super clean 'Clone Coin', easily explaining the techniques and methods behind his amazing routines.

"Once you see the ingenuity of the coin, the possibities are endless."

Clone Across, is a simple coins across in your hands effect. You start off by displaying two coins openly, there is obviously nothing else in your hands. You place the two coins, one at a time, and very cleanly, from your right hand to the left. You now pick the two coins up with your right hand, and display them. They are then thrown one at a time into your left hand (you can even hear them clinking), and you grip them, making a fist with both hands. You make a magical gesture, and although your hands never come anywhere near each other, you can now show that you have one coin in each hand!

Clone Matrix - Using four coins, which are shown and counted, and two regular playing cards, borrowed if you wish. The coins are spread out in to a square formation. Two of the coins are now covered by the playing cards. When one is lifted, a coin has gone, and when the other card is lifted there are now two coins under it. This is repeated, until all the coins are now under one card! You can now show you have only two cards and four coins!

Clone Alone - Start by showing an empty hand, reach into the air and produce a coin from nowhere. Reach under your elbow and produce a second coin. Be amazed as each coin then vanishes one by one!

The Experiment by Vinny Sagoo

Dr Rhine devised an experiment back in the early 1900's to test for the existence of Extra Sensory Perception (ESP). He created five symbols, the Circle, Cross, Triangle, Square and Wavy Lines. You remove ten cards from a plastic wallet, five of which you pass to your spectator. Ask him to shuffle them face down as you do the same with your packet. You both exchange one card, which is then turned face up and inserted into the face down packet of cards. This is all done behind your back, so that no one knows what the exchanged cards are. You spread both the packets and the SAME symbol is the only card face up! You then state that you made a prediction beforehand, and when you turn the plastic wallet over, it's also the SAME symbol! You state that this shows that you and the spectator have psychic abilities. The spectator a little sceptical, thinks that all of the cards are the same, but when they are turned over, they are actually all completely BLANK!

3. SLOW. I get so excited when I discover a visual trick I can do slowly. Crazy man's handcuffs is great, but if you don't have quick fingers, it can be tough. Plus you gotta keep those bands moving.
4. Multiple phases means you can get as much entertainment as you want out of it. Need a 5 second trick? You're set. Need more? Keep going!
5. The "secret moves" are impossible to catch. In the traditional crazy man's handcuffs, you need to do the dirty work out in the open. Great trick, but the heat is on. In Stretching Time, they can take their magnifying glasses out, they'll never see what happened.

PROFESSIONALS: For years now, anytime I'm out, the one trick I RELY ON to entertain on-demand is crazy man's handcuffs. When I've forgotten my gear, I just say "Yeah, do you have any rubber bands?" Great.. but after I do it, of course they want more. They love CMH, but it's a 2 second trick. Stretching time is the perfect pairing with CMH. It seems even more impossible, so personally I do it after, and it gives me at least another couple minutes to goof around with them and have fun.

The performer hands the spectator a small object. Whilst placing their hands behind their back, the spectator is instructed to hide the object in either hand. This time no questions are asked at all. The spectator is instructed to say nothing out loud. This is a game that is played only in the spectator’s mind. With zero questions asked, the mentalist is able to discern the location of the object with 100% accuracy.

Verbalist (A super clean TWO spectator version) -

The performer instructs two spectators that one of them is to hide a small object in one of their hands while his back is turned. The spectators are also instructed to decide which one of them is going to play the role of the truth teller and which one is going to play the role of the liar.

All this happens secretly and the performer has no knowledge of any of this when he turns around to face the spectators. With only a couple of questions, the performer is able to determine the exact location of the object, as well as determining which roles (liar/truth teller) each of the spectators are playing.

Fixed Fate aka 'Predicted Card at Predicted Number' by Cameron Francis and Big Blind Media

Predicted Card at PREDICTED NUMBER - a self working miracle! Comes with Bicycle Deck!

The magician hands a blue-backed deck to a spectator, who is then asked to name a random number - let's say they say, 15.

The spectator is asked to turn the deck face up and slowly deal down 15 cards. Every card is clearly different and the spectator stops at the 15th card. Let's say it is the Ten Of Clubs.

The magician reiterates just how fair this was. The spectator chose a random number. The spectator dealt down to THAT number themselves and ended on a card. Both the chosen number and the chosen card were freely arrived at.

The magician shows that, had a different number been named, a different card would have been selected. So that makes it all the more impossible when the Ten Of Clubs is flipped over to reveal that it has a RED BACK! It's the only card from a different deck. However that isn't the biggest shock... that would be the huge number 15 written across the back of the card!

What will he teach?

Meant to Be  This is an open-prediction effect in which a card is removed and placed with its back in full view. Someone then thinks of a card and the removed card is then shown to match the though-of card.

27  A card is fairly selected and lost in the pack. Someone in the audience is then instructed to pick a number that corresponds to a position in the pack. The cards are counted and the selection is found at that same number.

Pocketed Princess  This is my variation on the Princess Card Trick. No duplicate or gimmicked cards are used in this version. In the end, the thought-of card ends up in the magician's pocket.

Duality  One spectator finds another spectator's thought of card under impossible circumstances.

Relativity Change  This is a color change I created back in 2003. I'll teach the change and various applications for it.

Mom's Advice  Three silver dollars appear and disappear at the magician's fingertips.

Crimped Cup  This is my Cups and Balls routine.

Well, Justin Flom and I found it together. It happened five months ago, during a late-night jam session. Since that night, we’ve been working closely with Penguin Magic and the United States Playing Card Company to bring this KILLER PIECE OF MAGIC to all of you.

It’s ready.

Here’s the trick: You tear up a 4 and put a corner of the card in your friend’s hand. Then you take a step back and tear up a 7. You hold a corner of the 7 between your fingertips…and VISUALLY CHANGE IT INTO THE CORNER OF THE 4. Then your friend opens up her hand…AND SHE’S GOT THE 7.
