Effect: Offering to demonstrate the difference between intuition and thought-reading, you jot down a premonition on a business card to test your intuitive abilities which you leave face-down in front of your participant.
You hand them two dice and turn your back. The participant makes three rolls with the dice, silently totaling the rolls as they do so and without ever once saying a word. They are then asked to cover each die when finished - one die under each hand. You turn back around…

Mind Thief is a fun game of imagination, with a plot twist that turns it into a powerful piece of mind reading. A spectator thinks of one of any one of over 30 valuable objects: a platinum Rolex, a Prada necklace, Gucci Shoes, or a million dollars: it is truly a free choice, nothing is ever written down and no questions are asked.
The spectator imagines he has to get this valuable object home and hide it - but someone is trying to steal it from him! The performer shows him pictures and words in a spiral-bound book with options to get home and hide the object: on wide thoroughfares or narrow alleys, entering his home from the front door or back, hiding it in the bedroom of basement. The spectator never tells the performer his choices.
The performer then explains this has all been a con job: the real valuable object is the thought in the spectator's mind, the thief is the magician, trying to steal that thought; and the imagination game told the magician everything he needs to know about how the spectator thinks: for example, his choice of whether to go home on a wide street versus a narrow alley reveals how comfortable they would be sneaking this object home through a crowd and helps the performer interpret their body language. The performer then tells the spectator not only what the valuable object is, but where in his house he's hidden it.
Mind Thief is an effect I've been working on for over five years. It includes a combination of methods and strategies in a way that maximizes the emotional, dramatic and fooling power of the effect. It also includes a number of variations that I've explored along the way. Opener Book Test
The mentalist shows the audience two ordinary paper back books. One is given to a member of the audience and another spectator is invited on stage. Once on stage the spectator places a business card anywhere in the middle of the book the mentalist is holding and peeks at a page number and a word. After she identifies the word and a page number she writes the page number on the business card. The number she writes down is then given to the members of holding a book and they open their book to the page number on the business card. While the seated audience members opens their books at the page written on the business card the mentalist addresses another member of the audience and asks her to think of someone close to her and write it down and seal it in an envelope. The audience members with books write down the fist few words at the top of the page that they have previously opened to.
The mentalist jots something down on a pad of paper and reveals the thought of page number and word from the spectator who was brought on stage. Next he reveals the word written down by the spectator. Finally the spectator reveals the exact person that a member of the audience is just thinking of.
Psychic Symbols
Three spectators are invited on stage. The mentalist shows the spectators a stack of cards each with a different symbol on it. A fourth spectator is brought on stage and blindfolds the mentalist. Each volunteer on stage looks at a symbol from the stack and the mentalist correctly divines each symbol that the spectators are looking at.
The Moving Hand Writes
Two spectators are on stage. The mentalist shuffles a deck of cards, deals five cards to a table and asks one of the spectators to look at any of the dealt cards on the table. After he peeks at a card he mixes the cards on the table then the second spectator also peeks at a card. This is all done while the mentalist is several feet away. The mentalist tells both volunteers which cards they are thinking of and one of the spectator is asked to take her seat in the audience. With one spectator remaining on stage the mentalist shuffles the cards and hands the deck to the spectator. An envelope containing a single playing card is brought out of the mentalists pocket and placed on the table. The spectator deals cards one at a time into the mentalist hands and stops at any time. The card that he stops at matches the card in the envelope.
Incredible Insight #2
A paper bag and seven or eight pieces of paper from a newspaper. A volunteer selects a portion of the newspaper, crumbles up the piece of paper and tosses it in the paper bag. After that all of the other pieces are crumbled up and tossed in the bag and mixed. The mentalist then reaches in the bag and pulls out the exact piece that the spectator chooses and also reveals a thought of word from that piece of newspaper.
Micro Crypto
Spectators just think of one of several charms on a table. After they have thought of a charm you reveal it with out anything written down. As a finale they choose one of several charms and you are able to correctly predict which charm they will choose.
Phantini's Magazine Miracle
Someone chooses a page freely from a magazine with a playing card. They put an X on that page. Another spectator looks at the X and chooses a word where the X has been made. With all those random choices their chosen word matches a prediction that has been in full view since the beginning of the routine.

Dragon Peek by Fraser Parker
The spectator writes a piece of personal information on a random playing card which is then shuffled and lost in the deck. The deck is spread towards the spectator and they confirm their card is indeed lost somewhere in the deck, which is then closed and placed face down onto the table.
And yet, you will always be able to peek what was written, in the fairest manner possible.
Thanks to the structure and psychology of this peek you will always be in a position to be able to obtain the information effortlessly, without any out of place moves and with zero heat on the moment.
It literally takes a few seconds and all of the moves look and feel exactly how they would if you were in fact, doing nothing!
There is no rush or pressure to get your peek as you will be doing it right in front of your spectators but thanks to the psychology it will be hidden in plain sight!
This really is as clean and simplified as it sounds.

WHAT IS ISOLATION?...
IS ISOLATION A THINK A CARD ROUTINE?
Isolation is far more than a singular routine, instead it is an entire collection of thoughts, techniques and principles which will allow you to identify a card that someone is merely thinking of. Best of all the systems taught within this book are entirely modular and can be customised and tailored to suit the performer.
Whilst many performers marvelled over my CUP’s technique (which allows you to discern which word, or group of words someone may be focusing on) the principles outlined within this book take this to the allowing us to identify up to sixteen different pieces of information just by having a spectator visualise it in their mind. Isabella Star 3 owners will certainly be able to put these techniques to great use!
IS ISOLATION A PROP-LESS ROUTINE?
Each of the Isolation systems contained within this book can be performed entirely prop-less allowing you to reveal the name of a thought of card in person, via Skype or even over a telephone call. However, just because something can be performed entirely prop-less (i.e using nothing more than words) doesn’t mean that you have to perform it that way. For this reason I have also included several suggestions for those who wish to make use of a physical deck alongside the Isolation system.

MORE killer magic that you're NOT doing!
A guidebook to fabulous but forgotten material curated by yours truly...
I’ve been making notes and sticking Post-its in all my books for decades, so I have hundreds and hundreds of great tricks book-marked, annotated and logged, and after some (not so subtle) prompting by friends I finally decided to collect 100 of them together and publish them in a book.
That book – Hidden Gems – proved far more popular than I ever expected! So here we are with Vol. 2 and another 100 killer tricks that most of us have either forgotten about or never even seen before.
These are tricks that define the very concept of 'hidden in print'. In each entry I list the trick, where you can find it, why I love it and why YOU should look it up. I always describe the effect, occasionally the presentation, but NEVER the method.
Here are a few samples:
Hidden Gem #14: ‘The Trick That Cannot Be Reconstructed’ by Dai Vernon, The Vernon Chronicles Vol. 2 (p89). I am a huge fan of two-card transpositions and I’m always swapping methods and info about new ones I find with my closest magic friends. Except for this one. Sorry fellas! It is a three-phase transpo that just looks so utterly impossible. No dupes or gaffs, just Vernon genius.
Hidden Gem #52: ‘H2O’ by Jack Curtis, Distorted Thoughts (p30). This is a beautifully offbeat effect where you twice predict the amount of water a participant will pour into a jug (the prediction takes the form of a sketch) before the tables are turned and the participant predicts how much water you will pour. Great routining and a clever use of complimentary methods that completely cancel each other out.
Hidden Gem #73: ‘True Pencil Through Bill’ by Vanni Bossi, The Aretalogy of Vanni Bossi (p182). If there is one trick that I wish you could see performed before you learn how it’s done, this is it. It is the perfect trick: you really shove a pencil through the middle of a bank note, allowing it to be cleanly seen from every angle. And then you restore the note so that there is no hole. Really! No switch, regular note/bill and normal pencil. This is another once-in-a-lifetime creation and it demands far wider performance while there is still time (you’ll understand what that means once you read the method).

TETRAD TÊTE by Ken Dyne
Powerful mentalism doesn't have to travel with large or numerous items. Ken Dyne is here to show you how to be ready on the go with just business cards, pens, and a bulldog clip (if you'd like!) in TETRAD TÊTE!
Imagine this: Business cards are passed out to ten spectators, who each create a drawing. The cards are returned face down and secured with the bulldog clip. Three spectator flip through the cards and remember a drawing they saw while a fourth just remembers the drawing he made himself. Now all four mentally selected images are revealed.
Sounds incredible, doesn't it? But this is so much more than just a routine. This is a masterclass in effect construction that every serious mentalist and magician should consider. Not only will you learn to structure revelations in a way that builds tension and drama at each phase, but, maybe most importantly, it demonstrates how to layer methods in such a way to make the method indecipherable! Repertoire by Asi Wind

Paul Cummins has been opening his closeup act with this trick for over 20 years. It's quick, it proves you're a professional and is *extremely* deceptive -- even to magicians.
If all you see is a triumph minus a card selection, you're missing the worker gold in this routine.
Paul turns what would be a poker-card-sized trick into a huge Jumbotron-illusion. From his double-spread, to the way he displays the cards, True Triumph tricks the brain in ways people simply cannot follow. The secret sauce is Paul's signature "slop shuffle." Little Vernon by John Carey
If you see me and ask to see a trick, THIS is what I'll be performing from now on. I love it that much.
No one can figure it out, I don't care how smart they are. They merely THINK of a card.. like, with their EYES ONLY, then they shuffle the cards! And NO, you don't have to ask "is it in this pile? No? How about this one?".... That would be a terrible trick. There is absolutely no fishing!
But that's not enough to make a trick my go-to. The thing that puts "Little Vernon" over the top is that you can use literally any old deck -- even if it's incomplete. This may seem like a small thing, but I'll tell you from years of experience (of not being prepared), it means EVERYTHING to me.
